| Where to live in Europe? My husband might get relocated to Europe next year. They would like us to put together a wish list of countries that we would like to live. We have the easy ones already on the list; France, UK, Spain, etc. However we have a few countries we are not sure about. Could anyone tell us about living in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey? Thanks! Other - Europe - 7 Answers Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions : 1 : Live in the Uk because its almost exactly like america but everyone has a accsent and they eat fish and chips alot 2 : My favorite place in Europe is Munich, followed closely by Rome. Plenty to do in both places and the people are very friendly. 3 : Croatia is great the temperatures are in the mid 80s in the summer it is a beautiful country and I would suggest living in Rijeka or Dubrovnik they are both mid sized coastal cities with a population of about 200-300 thousand 4 : I would opt for Munich. It's very western, English is widely spoken and understood, and has a booming economy. I spent a few days there and found it to be charming. Since it has a central location, you can do a lot of travel from this location. 5 : Hi Lox, I don't know where in the U.S. you live, but I am a little surprised that the U.K. is one of your top pick. If it is because of the language then I understand. Otherwise, U.K. would be on the bottom of my list because U.K. probably has the worst weather in all of Europe, it has by far the worst food in Europe, London for example is extremely expensive, and there are a few other things that I don't want to mention. In Eastern Europe I would pick Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. It is a very beautiful city, excellent food, lot's of culture, etc. Another country on your list should be Germany. Lot's of history, great culture, beautiful landscapes, great food, less expensive than U.K., etc. Last year Germany was voted by 20,000 people for all over the world as the best country in the world, and this by itself is a good reason to put Germany on your list. Other countries you want to consider are Denmark and Sweden. The Scandinavians are the most friendly people in all of Europe, their standard of living is very high, good food. 6 : Do not count der Nederlanden out. It simply (imo) is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. Almost all of them can speak English. Their grammar is similar to ours and the vocab is the only challenging part (only sort of). Most of the countries you are unsure about would be a great challenge to become accustomed to living in, although not impossible. Dutch food, culture and scenery is immaculate. Do not base your judgments on Amsterdam, especially if you are not into pro-drug use. Most of them do not mind speaking English for you and because you are North American, they seem to have a friendly disposition towards us. Oh and everything there is fairly inexpensive, especially food and living supplies. 7 : Slovenia is a great place to live in. Most people speak english or german and it's one of the safest countries. If you have kids, kindergardens are expensive but probably one of the best. |
