Why do people live so long in Bulgaria?
I can't find anything about this on the internet and need the answer for research I'm doing. Thanks!

They don't live very long; their lifespan is lower than ours.

They actually don't. It just seems that way.

It tends to be people who live in remote mountain areas, rather than the Bulgarian population as a whole, and this is supposedly down to their hard working lifestyle, and a very simple diet, an important component of which is a special youghurt, made by individual families. There were newspaper reports a few years ago that the yoghurt had life - extending qualities.

Life expectancy in Bulgaria is 67,1 years for men and 74,3 years for women. In Belgium, life expectancy for men is 75 and for women 81, so there's nothing special about that. Maybe you don't need information on life expectancy, but on aging populations? Bulgaria is not an exception to the general trend in Europe, towards an aging population, but are Bulgarian society and the national health care system ready to respond adequately to the trends?
